The racist left

If he is elected to the U.S. Senate as expected, Ted Cruz will be Texas' first Hispanic to snag that lofty post and one of the few in that chamber's history, but the state is not exactly abuzz about that ground-breaking aspect of his likely move.

Instead, there have been questions from some about his Hispanic credentials, and political scientists say his background and positions may put him at odds with many Texas Hispanics whose heritage is Mexican and who are more likely to be Democratic.

Cruz, a Republican, and the son of a Cuban immigrant, is aligned with the tea party and opposes the DREAM Act.

"Even the fact that he made it to the general election - that, in and of itself, is ... a history maker for the community," said Jessica Lavariega Monforti, associate professor of political science and assistant dean of theUniversity of Texas-Pan American College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. "Whether the community likes that or not is another question. Oftentimes, we don't get to choose our history makers."

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa has been unrelenting in his criticism.

"His last name may be Cruz, but there is nothing, not an ounce, about the way he thinks and the way he has led his life that in any way is similar to Hispanics in the state of Texas and all across America," Hinojosa said. "Ted Cruz is as much Hispanic ... as Tom Cruise."

Take a step back and just imagine a story with a similar theme being written about an Anglo politician.  Everyone would sense immediately that a statement like that attributed to Hinojosa was a vile racist rant by a rent seeker for his race.  Democrats should be ashamed of this kind of racism rather than promoting it.  Ted Cruz is a patriotic Texan and that is all that should matter.

Liberals do this with conservative blacks too.  Some of the ugliest insults in politics are directed toward them because they reject the evils of liberalism.  This kind of prejudice should be rejected no matter who is saying it.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014. When the Congressional Budget Office crunched Obamacare's spending numbers, they estimated that only 7% of employees currently covered by employer-sponsored plans would lose their plans. ...
