Ted Cruz warmly received by some liberals in New York

Dallas Morning News:
Sen. Ted Cruz is in a crowded ballroom full of Zionists this Sunday evening, headlining an annual Zionist Organization of America dinner.

“Standing with Israel and strengthening the U.S.-Israel alliance is critical for our nation and has been a key priority from the very first day I arrived in the US Senate,” he said at a VIP reception beforehand.

“The threats to Israel right now have never been greater, and now is a time when we do not need leaders who simply speak empty words of support for Israel,” he said in a well-received speech. “We need leaders who will stand and act. Now, more than ever, is a time to strengthen the unshakable alliance and friendship America has with the nation of Israel.”

Cruz was introduced by an old friend and law professor, Alan Dershowitz. Cruz, as conservative as Dershowitz is liberal, was one of his star pupils at Harvard Law School.

Dershowitz called him “a man of principle, a man of high intelligence, a man of determination, and one of Israel’s strongest supporters in the United States Senate.”

Beforehand, he explained their friendship.

“The American way is to cross over the aisle and try to accommodate,” the professor said. “I like Ted very much as a person. I liked him very much as an intellect, as a student. His views on Israel. We agree to disagree on a range of issues.

His participation, he said, was a way to show solidarity in the pro-Israel community, regardless of domestic political differences.
...
Intelligent liberals like Dershowitz can appreciate Ted Cruz's intellect without agreeing with him on everything.  That is unfortunately a rare commodity among liberals.  I probably agree with Cuz on more issues than Dershowitz, but I especially agree with him on Israel.  I find nothing wrong with Zionism.  In fact the same Muslims who believe they should have a right to migrate to the US and Europe are opposed to Jewish migration to Israel. That makes no sense and is a reflection of their ethnic hatred of Jews and their religious bigotry.
