Bodies of missing sailors found in crushed compartments of ship

NY Times:

Bodies of Missing Sailors Found on Damaged Destroyer

The Navy said that the bodies were found inside the flooded berthing compartments of the U.S.S. Fitzgerald, a day after it collided with a cargo ship.
The sailors were probably sleeping in their berths at the time their ship was "T-boned" by a larger cargo ship during the night.  Pictures of the damage to the two ships show damage to the bow of the cargo ship and to the starboard side of the US destroyer.  I suspect that both ships were using autopilots at the time of the collision.  Normally, someone would be assigned to watch the radar to be able to tell when another ship was close so evasive action could be taken.
