'Involuntary manslaughter' verdict in a case where evidence suggested a cold calculated deliberate act

NY Times:

Verdict in Texting Suicide Hinged on a Final Phone Call

Michelle Carter, who pressed Conrad Roy III to kill himself, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in a rare finding that a person’s words can directly cause someone else’s suicide.
I see the case is not that different from a case where someone solicits the murder of another and pushes the shooter to take action.  The only difference here is that she is alleged to have done it to a vulnerable "friend" urging him to take his own life.  She is not a sympathetic figure in my view.
