China not expected to support North Korea in war with US

Washington Post:
China warns North Korea: You’re on your own if you go after the United States

The statement came in a state-owned newspaper’s editorial. But China will step in, the newspaper wrote, if the U.S. tries a preemptive strike to force regime change.
The preemptive strike would be a defensive measure to stop a nuclear attack on the US.  If there is a regime change in North Korea it will be because there are few survivors of their war with the US.  I think the message China is really sending to North Korea is that they need to stand down in their nuclear ambitions.  The US has said it is not seeking regime change.
