Iran looking to support attacks on Kurds in disputed areas of Iraq

Janes:
Iran likely to test US reaction by ordering PMU assault on Kurdish forces in Iraq's Kirkuk province

...
By triggering an escalation through its proxy PMUs, Iran would seek to force the US into an unwelcome decision between stepping back and allowing the conflict to escalate, or standing by the Kurds and giving credibility to Iran’s narrative that Iraqi Kurdish independence is an attempt to create a “new Israel”.
...
Iran's specialty is stirring up trouble and Obama has given them the funding to make it possible.  The Kurds took over Kirkuk when it was abandoned by Iraqi troops after ISIS attacked.  Iran fears an independent Kurdish region in Iraq could lead to a demand for Kurds in Iran to join it.

Iran seems determined to prove that Trump was right in designated their Revolutionary Guard is a terrorist organization that supports groups like Hezballah and PMU.  The PMU is a Shia militia in Iraq called the Popular Mobilization Units.  They appear to be under the control of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
