NFL tells teams to require players to respect the flag and stand for anthem

Washington Post:
Roger Goodell says NFL believes players should stand during national anthem

For now, the league won't say whether it believes a team such as the Cowboys or Dolphins is within its rights to compel its players to stand for the anthem under current rules.
The Washington Post has a right to free speech as an entity, but it can fire employees who do things inconsistent with its values.  An employer can require its employees not to make political statements on the job.  In fact, Congress has limited what government employees can say on the job when it comes to politics.

A hardware store can fire an employee who tries to push his political agenda on customers.  So can a grocery store.  Players can comply with an owners job requirements, including standing for the national anthem or they can find a new job.

If they are intent on making a political statement, they can do it on their own time and in their own space and not while wearing the team's uniform.  This is really not complicated.

Further, the whole basis of their "systematic oppression" argument is specious.  They have fallen for the Ferguson "hands up, don't shoot" lie.  As the FBI has pointed out this lie has led some "black identity extremists" to go on a cop killing spree.  To suggest that football players are an oppressed group is ridiculous on its face.

To suggest that they are slaves as some ESPN talkers have is absurd.  Unlike slaves, they can quit their job at any time and go find work doing something else.  At CNN one of their talkers made the racist suggestion that whites were not allowed to criticize black players disrespecting the national anthem.  How does someone that ignorant get a gig on CNN?

The media is also somewhat responsible for pushing the "hands up, don't shoot" lie.  It is still a lie, and the Obama DOJ investigated the events surrounding the lie and found no evidence to support it despite devoting great resources to finding it.
