If their goal was discords the Russians got a free bonanza from the Democrats and the mainstream media after the election. Their gratuitous attacks on President Trump were a gift of discord by pushing the discredited Steele dossier. I have not heard a convincing case of why the Russian sourced Steele dossier was not a much more active disinformation campaign than the ads.
I think they will have a tough time making that charge stick if they ever happen to get the Russians in custody since Facebook's records show the bulk of the ads were bought after the election. My own recollection was seeing more suspect items on Twitter than Facebook. I can't think of a memorable ad on Facebook either before or after the election.
