Wind farms could get boost from Trump infrastructure plan by adding transmission lines to end users

President Donald Trump's infrastructure proposal has renewed hope within the power sector that there might be some federal funding for them after all.

On Monday the White House released a 55-page infrastructure plan, which along with the expected mentions of roads and airports also identified power projects as eligible for $50 billion in federal infrastructure spending in rural areas.

"We see significant promise in President Trump's plan," said Amy Farrell, a senior vice president at the American Wind Energy Association. "With 99 percent of American wind farms built in rural areas, an investment in transmission infrastructure boosts rural economies while improving resilience and reliability."

The lack of transmission lines has been a major weakness for wind energy producers outside of Texas.  In Texas the state has built the transmission lines which has led to explosive growth in that sector.  The lack of lines along with intermittent wind conditions in teh Northeast has been a problem.
