Palestinians are the reason there is no peace

NY Times:

Death in Gaza, a New Embassy in Jerusalem and No Sign of Peace

  • Hours before a celebration of the new United States Embassy, at least 58 protesters were killed and thousands injured at the Gaza border, Palestinian officials said.
  • The two scenes illustrated the chasm dividing Israelis and Palestinians.
The embassy move is not the reason there is no peace.  Before the move, the Palestinians had ample opportunity to enter into generous peace agreements and chose not to because they have unrealistic expectations, i.e. they want all of Israel.

The Palestinians have dubious claims to any of Israel.  They are part of a Muslim faction that has never forgiven Jews for rejecting Islam.  That is the heart of the problem that most on the left refuse to see.

The current killing could have been easily avoided if the Hamas leadership had told their people to go home instead of telling them to engage in a futile charge into Israel.  The main reason they ordered the charge is that they hoped to get mass casualties in hope that they would gain sympathy.  It was one of the more cynical suicide missions in history and many of those who oppose Israel fell for it.

As reported by the NY Post Editorial:
...
But “peaceful protests” hardly describes this latest in a series of Hamas efforts to get Gazans to breach the border. As one Palestinian told The Washington Post: “We are excited to storm and get inside.” Asked what he would do inside Israel, he responded: “Whatever is possible, to kill, throw stones.”
...
The question for the NY Times is why do you have empathy with those who would do such a thing?
